10-year-old Dipak Thakor tragically lost his life after a brutal monkey attack while playing with friends in Western India.
On Tuesday, Thakor was enjoying his time near a temple in the western state of Gujarat in India when he encountered a notorious gang of aggressive monkeys.
The gang attacked Thakor, with one of the monkeys tearing out his intestines and digging its claws into the helpless boy, as reported by Indian officials.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Thakor could not be saved.
“His intestine was ripped out in the attack. He rushed to his house and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” the official said.
The monkeys responsible for this tragic incident are still at large and have been involved in several other attacks. This marks the third attack by monkeys in the village within a week.
Vishal Chaudhary, a Salki forest official, revealed that efforts are underway to capture the large troop of monkeys. Two langurs have already been rescued, and traps have been set up to catch another one.
“We have rescued two langurs in the past one week, and set up cages to trap another langur,” Chaudhary stated. “There is a large troop of monkeys in the village, including four adults who have been involved in attacks in the past one week. Two of them have been rescued. Efforts are on to cage another.”
Chaudhary mentioned that two langurs have been captured so far, and cages have been set up in order to trap a third.
Monkey attacks are unfortunately not uncommon in India, with numerous incidents reported in recent years.
In a separate incident earlier this year, a monkey that had a bounty of ₹21,000 (approximately $250) on its head was captured in Madhya Pradesh after attacking 20 people over a two-week period.
In 2021, two monkeys were caught in the Indian state of Maharashtra under suspicion of killing up to 250 puppies by dropping them from rooftops and treetops.
While monkeys are not naturally violent, attacks can occur in areas where they coexist with humans and feel threatened or accustomed to receiving food.

What are some factors contributing to the increasing number of monkey attacks in India?
And dogs over a span of six months. These incidents highlight the severity of the issue and the need for effective measures to mitigate such attacks.
One of the main reasons for the increasing number of monkey attacks in India is the encroachment of their natural habitats. As human settlements expand into previously uninhabited areas, monkeys are forced to seek food and shelter in urban areas. This leads to increased interaction between humans and monkeys, resulting in conflicts and attacks.
Another contributing factor is the feeding of monkeys by tourists and locals. While it may seem harmless and even enjoyable to feed monkeys, it only encourages their presence in populated areas. Monkeys become dependent on human food sources and lose their ability to forage in the wild. This reliance on humans can lead to aggressive behavior when food is scarce or when they feel threatened.
Efforts are being made to address this issue and prevent future attacks. Local authorities in affected areas are implementing strategies such as the capture and relocation of aggressive monkeys, the sterilization of monkey populations to control their numbers, and public awareness campaigns to educate the public about the consequences of feeding monkeys.
In addition, it is important for individuals to take preventive measures to minimize the risk of monkey attacks. These measures include avoiding direct eye contact with monkeys, refraining from sudden movements or loud noises that may provoke them, securely closing doors and windows to prevent monkeys from entering homes, and securely disposing of waste that may attract monkeys.
Furthermore, it is crucial for authorities to enforce strict regulations against feeding monkeys and ensure proper waste management practices to reduce their presence in urban areas. By addressing the root causes of monkey attacks and implementing effective preventive measures, we can create a safer environment for both humans and monkeys.
In conclusion, the recent tragic incident involving the brutal monkey attack on a 10-year-old boy highlights the urgent need for action to address the issue of monkey attacks in India. It is essential to address the encroachment of monkey habitats, discourage the feeding of monkeys, and implement strategies to capture and relocate aggressive monkeys. Additionally, public awareness and individual preventive measures are crucial in minimizing the risk of such attacks. Only through collective efforts and proactive measures can we ensure the safety and coexistence of humans and monkeys in India.
