A 13-year-old boy is being charged with attempted murder after shooting a fellow classmate at an elementary school in Memphis. The Memphis Police Department said the suspect turned himself in after fleeing the scene Thursday morning and is now in custody.
Officers said the victim, also a 13-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The school was placed on lockdown immediately after the shooting and it was reported that nobody else was injured. Meanwhile, the juvenile’s motive remains unclear.
The children’s hospital where the victim was transported to said it’s treated more than 100 kids with gunshot wounds this year alone.
