14-Year-Old Armed With Handgun Allegedly Steals Victim’s Cellphone, Is Promptly Caught by “Find my Phone” Feature
A 14-year-old male armed with a handgun — along with a similarly armed adult — pistol whipped a victim in the back of his head during a pot-smoking session in Jonesboro, Georgia, earlier this month and made off with the victim’s cellphone, Clayton County Police said.
They didn’t make it far. The officers quickly used the “Find My iPhone” Use the app to locate suspected perps.
What about the details?
Police said that the attack occurred at 3:00 p.m. Jan. 7, in the 6700 block Tara Boulevard. They also added that officers were able to use the app to track the location of the suspects.
Police said that the two were found in the vicinity of Jesters Lake Drive & North Main Street. It’s approximately two miles away from the crime scene.
The 14-year-old suspect — cops didn’t name him or show a photo of him due to his age — complied with all commands and was immediately taken into custody without incident, police said, adding that they found a Google Pixel cellphone and a 9mm handgun in the juvenile’s underwear. Police claimed that the gun and phone were stolen in another incident.
The charges against the 14-year-old were armed robbery and possession of firearms during the commission a crime. Police also charged him with possessing a gun by someone under 18 years old.
The adult suspect — identified as Chase Phillips, 21 — tried to get away on foot, but police said they caught him after a short foot chase.
Phillips carried a Bryco Arms black/silver handgun with him. He was charged for armed robbery and aggravated assault.
Police said that they confiscated two guns, two cellphones and marijuana from each suspect.
Cops also stated that the victim was treated for a head injury.
