2 ‘Squad’ members insult cops by being the only no votes on honoring fallen officers.
Far-Left “Squad” Members Oppose Resolution Honoring Fallen Police Officers
Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Cori Bush of Missouri were the only voices of opposition when the House passed a resolution honoring 556 police officers who were killed in the line of duty, including 224 officers killed in 2022. The two members of the so-called far-left “squad” claimed that the resolution was a Republican attempt to gaslight the public about their support for law enforcement. However, Republican Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas called out Bush and Tlaib on Twitter, stating that their stance is to defund, dismantle, and disparage police officers.
Democrats’ Hypocrisy on Police Funding
Republican Rep. Steve Scalise criticized Democrats like Tlaib for their attacks on the police, stating that they called for defunding the police instead of defending the men and women who risk their lives to protect American citizens every day. However, the same radical Democrats who touted “defund the police” spent hundreds of thousands to ensure their own security, something that’s not an option for most Americans. A report in the Washington Free Beacon revealed that Tlaib, Bush, and other Democrats have collectively spent more than $1 million on private security since 2020.
Investing in Communities for Public Safety
Tlaib and Bush claimed that they prioritize the health and safety of their community members, including first responders. However, they believe that the resolution honoring fallen police officers is a Republican attempt to advance a false narrative about supporting law enforcement. They argue that Republicans should be taking up legislation like the People’s Response Act and other proposals put forward by their Democratic colleagues that would invest in communities, prevent violence, and move us closer to genuine public safety for all.
