3 dead in California fire as 2 helicopters collide.

Two helicopters recently collided mid-air while tending to a California fire, resulting in the tragic deaths of two firefighters⁣ and one pilot.

On Sunday evening, ‍a crew was dispatched to ⁤a fire in Riverside⁢ County, Cabazon. While bravely fighting​ the blaze that had been spreading over 20-acres, two​ out of the six helicopters responding to the scene abruptly crashed into each other.

The Riverside County​ Sheriff’s Department released​ a statement on Monday morning regarding this heartbreaking tragedy.

According to the department, after the impact, one​ of the helicopters crashed into a hillside, ‍claiming the lives of all three ⁣individuals on board. However, the‌ other helicopter involved in the collision was able to land safely, and thankfully, no one on board that aircraft was injured.

The crash caused the fire to spread ‌over an additional 4 acres before it was ⁢eventually extinguished by the remaining crew members on site.

During a news ⁤conference on Monday, Cal Fire Southern Region Chief David Fulcher addressed the incident.

“This sacrifice should not be ‌in​ vain. ⁢We ​must remember them and provide support to their families,”‌ Fulcher said.  “We are here for them, ​and we have already met with two ⁢of the family ⁢members. We are working on meeting with the third. We want⁢ to assure them that they are not alone.”

The names of the three victims have not yet been released, but they have been identified as a Cal Fire division chief, a Cal​ Fire captain, and a contract pilot.

The National Transportation Safety Board ‍is ‍currently investigating the⁣ crash.
