5,000 Fewer Abortions per Month After Supreme Court’s Dobbs Decision: Study
A new report by the Society of Family Planning (SFP) suggests that the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, which overturned previous abortion precedents, has led to approximately 5,377 fewer abortions per month. The SFP analyzed abortion trends before and after the ruling and found 32,260 cumulative fewer abortions between July to December 2022. The study also identified 13 states that implemented near-total abortion bans, which saw 43,410 fewer abortions in the six-month period. Meanwhile, other states, including Minnesota and Kansas, that had restrictions on abortion but were closer in distance to states that had banned abortion experienced surges in the number of abortions provided. The study suggests that many abortion seekers living in restrictive states may have traveled to other nearby states for care.
