9 Reasons Chicago Is the Perfect Site for the 2024 Democratic Convention
What happened: President Joe Biden declared on Tuesday that the 2024 Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago. He believes that the city is an excellent option to illustrate the historic progress on his watch.
Why it matters: President Biden’s choice of Chicago for the 2024 Democratic National Convention is right on point. Here are nine reasons why:
1) Crime: As with most large cities long under Democratic control, Chicago has a crime issue that elected officials cannot or will not address. Murders have increased by nearly 40% since 2019 and cases of car theft have more than doubled in the past year alone. District attorney Kim Foxx, whose campaign was backed by George Soros, has a track record of allowing violent criminals to walk free. Convictions have declined almost 30% under her watch.
2) High taxes: Democrats love raising taxes more than anything else; according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Chicago is one of the cities with highest tax burden on residents, with families forced to surrender over 12% of their income.
3) Corruption: Dozens of public corruption convictions are seen every year in Chicago. Illinois ranks amongst the most corrupt states, and the city hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1931.
4) Population decline: Residents and businesses are fleeing Chicago at an alarming rate due to the reasons mentioned earlier.
5) Jussie Smollett hoax: Jussie Smollett famously committed a fake hate crime against himself in Chicago. Powerful Democratic figures, including Michelle Obama’s chief of staff, interjected on his behalf. Smollett was ultimately convicted but avoided imprisonment.
6) Memories of the 1968 riots: The 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago saw hundreds of police officers and civilians injured when left-wing activists and communists turned violent.
7) The Obamas: Chicago was where former president Barack Obama worked as a community organizer and where his presidential library is being built. The massive complex is filled with controversies, having displaced long-term black residents who can no longer afford their rents.
8) Gov. J.B. Pritzker: The Illinois billionaire and Democratic Governor wants to be president, he offered to cover the bill. His likelihood of making it through a primary Democratic campaign is slim to none.
9) Healthcare facilities: Chicago is home to the Northwestern University healthcare system, which includes the Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease, making it a great place for President Biden, who is set to turn 82 by the time he accepts the nomination.
