Cuomo Slammed Over Statement Following CNN Firing: ‘Apologize To Those Covington Kids You Smeared’
Former CNN host Chris Cuomo was slammed over the statement that he issued following the news that broke on Saturday evening that his employer, CNN, had terminated him following an internal company investigation.
“This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother,” Chris Cuomo said in a statement. “So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.”
Notable responses to Cuomo’s statement included:
Mike Cernovich, political commentator: “Apologize to those Covington kids you smeared. And to the people who lost relatives in the nursing home genocide.”Jonathan Adler, law professor: “Note the lack of an apology to his colleagues, the network, his viewers, or anyone else.”Stephen Miller, political commentator: “World needs plenty of solar panels.”Alheli Picazo, writer: “You didn’t ‘help your brother,’ you enabled and abuser and further victimized survivors.”Ron T. Kim, New York Democratic lawmaker: “You enabled and empowered your brother to lie about deadly policies that killed thousands of older adults. That is not brotherly love and family loyalty. That is just one criminal helping another criminal.”John Cardillo, political commentator: “F*** off. You smeared innocents for years and helped cover up your brother’s sexual assaults. You should be in prison.”Sana Saeed, leftist political commentator: “As his brother was facing scandal after scandal – from the cover up of the covid deaths at nursing homes to sexual misconduct – Cuomo didn’t just ‘help a brother,’ he helped obfuscate stories about a public official’s alleged criminal activity. And it doesn’t stop at Chris Cuomo – his interviews with his brother were a violation of CNN policy. So, who at CNN ok’d his repeated violations?”Ernest Owens, journalist: “You abused the power you had as a member of the free press to discredit victims. Shame.”Krystal Ball, leftist: “Cuomo’s statement. No apology or seemingly any regret.”Harry Khachatrian, columnist: “Could see the Cuomo brothers going on to start some home renovation show together where they demolish nursing homes.”
“Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defense,” CNN said in a statement on Saturday evening. “We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately.”
“While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light,” the network added. “Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate.”
