FLASHBACK: Ted Cruz Exposes Radical Record of Dem-Backed US Attorney
The Senate on Wednesday voted to confirm Rachael Rollins as the next U.S. attorney for Massachusetts. During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on her nomination in September, Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) slammed the “radical prosecutor,” saying she is “vocal and aggressive against prosecuting crime.”
“According to this individual who Democrats want to make the top prosecutor in the state of Massachusetts, trespassing is no longer against the law,” Cruz said. “We should unanimously reject this nominee—that would be if we were in the land of reason, that’s what we would do.”
Rollins, who serves as Suffolk County district attorney, faced intense opposition from Republicans, who argued she is soft on crime. As Boston’s chief prosecutor, she vowed to forgo prosecution for a number of crimes, including theft and drug dealing. The district attorney has also worked closely with a criminal justice reform group that supports the defund the police movement.
The Senate confirmed Rollins along party lines, with Vice President Kamala Harris stepping in to cast the tie-breaking vote.
