Senate Democrat Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) has urged federal regulators to launch a probe into Facebook. On Thursday, Warren sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission, asking them to investigate whether the platform’s parent company, Meta, misled investors and advertising customers.

Additionally, her colleague, Washington Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Wednesday in regards to the same issue. She said “a thorough investigation by the Commission and other enforcement agencies is paramount, not only because Facebook and its executives may have violated federal law, but because members of the public and businesses are entitled to know the facts regarding Facebook’s conduct.”

Public information provided by Facebook whistleblower, Frances Haugen, has suggested the company allegedly deceived its customers about brand safety and advertising metrics, which is a federal crime. Facebook reportedly controlled nearly 75 percent of the social media market in 2020, causing the White House to crack down on the tech giant.
