White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the rejection of Democrats’ immigration reform in Build Back Better is “deeply disappointing.”
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Psaki said the decision relegates millions of dollars to an uncertain and frightening future, adding the Biden administration and Democrat partners “vehemently disagree.” This comes after the proposal to allow so-called Dreamers to apply for up to two five-year work permits, was found to be against Senate reconciliation rules.
Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) tweeted the decision just confirms the obvious, adding giving millions to immigrants isn’t a budgetary matter.
Parliamentarian again confirms the obvious & rules that giving amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants isn’t a budgetary matter appropriate for reconciliation Good thing common sense prevails

Meanwhile, Psaki said Democrats will keep fighting.
“And we’ll keep fighting to give relief and protection to the many Dreamers, TPS holders, farmworkers and essential workers who are living in fear,” she said. “Ultimately, it’s time for Congress to stop kicking the can down the road and finally provide certainty and stability to these groups and make other badly needed reforms to our outdated immigration system.”
Although, Psaki said she isn’t trying to push for an overhaul and instead said she was only “suggesting we support our efforts to get immigration reform done.”
