Nebraska’s Republican Party is pushing to censure Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) again for breaking with President Trump.

In an open letter to Sasse on Thursday, the state’s GOP chair said the resolution to censure came after Sasse decried claims of voter fraud and blamed President Trump for the violence on Capitol Hill. She went on to say it is unfortunate they do not have a way to recall Sasse, as the party no longer believes he is representing Nebraskans’ best interests when he goes to Washington.

The senator responded by saying he was fulfilling his promise to put the Constitution above party politics.

“You are welcome to censure me again, but let’s be clear about why this is happening,” Sasse stated. “It’s because I still believe, as you used to, that politics isn’t about the weird worship of one dude. The party could purge Trump skeptics, but I’d like to convince you that not only is that civic cancer for the nation, it’s just terrible for our party.”

Sasse has had a long history of butting heads with President Trump over the last four years.

The censure is likely to be imposed on February 13.
