Country Legend Dolly Parton ‘Respectfully’ Bows Out Of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Consideration

Country legend Dolly Parton “respectfully” said she was bowing out of her nomination to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after being under consideration for the 2022 ballot.

“Dolly here!” the 76-year-old country singer wrote in a lengthy post Monday that she shared on Instagram. “Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right.”

“I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out,” she added. “I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy.”

“This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll record at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do,” Parton continued. “My husband is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak, and always encouraged me to do one.”

The “Steel Magnolias” star closed out her message by wishing good luck to all the nominees as she thanked the hall again for the compliment.

Earlier this year, the “9 to 5” actress’ name was included in the 2022 ballot along with the likes of Duran Duran, Eminem, Lionel Richie, among others, reported USA Today.

During a recent interview for Billboard magazine, the “Jolene” hitmaker talked about being nominated and repeated that she didn’t think she was a rock and roller in any way.

“I was absolutely floored when I heard that,” Parton admitted. “I’ve never thought of myself as being rock and roll in any sense of the word — but I guess they judge it on the music and the influence certain songs have had, and I guess I’ve had songs with other people in that realm. But I don’t know how they judge that.”

“I’m not expecting that I’ll get in,” she added. “But if I do, I’ll immediately, next year, have to put out a great rock and roll album — which I’ve wanted to do for years, like a Linda Ronstadt or Heart kind of thing. So this may have been just a God-wink for me to go ahead and do that. It’s just nice to be nominated.”

This year’s class of inductees will be announced in May on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s website.

Country music superstar’s being inducted into the hall isn’t necessarily unheard of and if Dolly had been picked she would’ve been included alongside such legends as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, and Brenda Lee,  just to name a few.

In 1999, the “I Will Always Love You” hitmaker was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, as noted on the singer’s website.
