Newt Gingrich Predicts GOP Could Gain Up To 70 House Seats In Midterms
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Sunday that Republicans could pick up as many as 70 seats in the House of Representatives after the 2022 midterm elections.
Gingrich shared the prediction during an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo.
“I think we’ll pick up between 25 and 70 seats in the House. We’ll probably pick up about four seats in the Senate,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich specified the Georgia senate race featuring former football star Herschel Walker running as a Republican.
“I think that people like Herschel Walker are going to do very, very well. In addition, I would say that if you are in a district that Biden carried by less than 15-20 points, you’re in great danger as a Democrat,” he added.
The Senate is currently in a 50-50 tie with Democrats in the lead as Vice President Kamala Harris carries the tiebreaking vote.
Walker faces Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, who narrowly defeated Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler in a January 2021 runoff election.
Gingrich also predicted that California Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy would be the next Speaker of the House, taking the place of current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
“Kevin McCarthy will be speaker, and I think he will do an amazingly good job,” Gingrich added.
The remarks followed Gingrich’s comments earlier in the interview that expressed concern over Biden’s cognitive state, which might have contributed to his historically low approval ratings.
“As a citizen, all of us have to worry about having a commander-in-chief who at a minimum seems to be confused a lot and at a maximum may well have a serious cognitive problem,” he noted.
“That should bother all of us way beyond politics, and it’s clearly obvious every single week with President Biden,” Gingrich added.
The former House speaker also took to Twitter on Monday to share his hope for the future of the conservative movement in America.
“If conservatives can build a performance-based message on the themes of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, we can govern with a long-term, stable American majority rather than a shorter-lived Republican majority,” he wrote.

The predictions come following a warning last month by former Democratic presidential candidate and Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who shared concerns that her party would likely face “big losses” at the November midterms.
Warren shared the concerns in an April op-ed published in The New York Times.
“To put it bluntly: if we fail to use the months remaining before the elections to deliver on more of our agenda, Democrats are headed toward big losses in the midterms,” Warren wrote.

The Massachusetts senator also pointed concerns at the “stalled Biden agenda.”
“Now Republicans are betting that a stalled Biden agenda won’t give Democrats enough to run on in the midterm elections — and they might be right,” Warren wrote.
