A Threat To Democracy? Biden’s New Election-Denying Press Secretary Meets The Left’s Definition

“The rules are the rules,” President Joe Biden once told the press when asked about a sprinter being suspended after testing positive for THC, the primary active ingredient in marijuana.

If Biden is really steadfast in his support for following the rules, then he must think his new White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, is a threat to democracy, since that is what the Left says about anyone who questions the legitimacy of our elections.

The “rules” defining such a “threat to democracy” were established by the Left after the 2020 election, when then- President Donald J. Trump, dozens of elected representatives, and millions of Americans questioned the results. They alleged fraud while claiming nefarious actors stole it from their reach. They even went so far as to encourage electoral college voters to throw the victory over to Trump.

It should be noted that dozens of progressive pundits made it clear that doubting the election and voicing that disbelief was a menace to the foundation of our democracy.

Prior to the 2020 election, CNN’s Brian Stelter argued in a column titled, ”The threat to democracy we all should have seen coming,” that comments made by Trump about potential election interference were damaging to democracy itself.

If questioning the legitimacy of American institutions, doubting the accuracy of the vote, and spreading false claims is a threat to democracy, then Jean-Pierre’s tweet history should preclude her from her new position.

On Thursday, Jerry Dunleavy of The Washington Examiner reported that in December 2016, Jean-Pierre tweeted, “Stolen emails, stolen drone, stolen election … welcome to the world of #unpresidented Trump.”

A baseless tweet about a stolen election? The Left doesn’t tolerate that, at least they don’t when it is Republicans making the claim.

For example, after the 2020 election, Washington Post columnist Paul Waldman said Republicans were “spreading false claims about voter fraud, to convince their own base that the election is right now being stolen from Trump, its rightful winner.”

Dunleavy then noted that “In May 2018, [Jean-Pierre] tweeted, ‘Boom’ in response to Judy Woodruff of PBS News tweeting that Obama director of national intelligence James Clapper ‘says he’s personally concluded Russians not only influenced but DECIDED outcome of 2016 election.’”

Clapper’s statement didn’t appear to be based on any sort of fact and came years after the election took place.

Further, Dunleavy explained: “Jean-Pierre also tweeted, ‘Jimmy Carter for the win’ in June 2019 when the former president said that if the matter were fully investigated, it ‘would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. … He was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.’”

Jean-Pierre also “shared calls for the Electoral College to reject Trump’s win,” as Dunleavy reported, when she tweeted out a Think Progress article titled “Electoral College must reject Trump unless he sells his business.”

All of those actions, and more covered by Dunleavy, would seem to meet the progressive belief that instilling doubt, even calling for an overthrow of the election, is tantamount to declaring war on American democracy itself.

Of course, many will argue that Trump — as president of the United States — calling the election illegitimate is different than Jean-Pierre. But she isn’t just some lowly staffer, she’s now going to be the White House press secretary, representing the president. That’s a prominent person who has made such claims

Based on Leftist standards, she’s a threat to democracy. You may not agree with that standard — the author of this article certainly doesn’t — but as Biden said, “The rules are the rules.”
