Pennsylvania Senate GOP Primary Likely Headed to a Recount

Automatic recount expected in Dr. Oz, Dave McCormick US Senate race in Pennsylvania

The battle for the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania’s open U.S. Senate seat is too close to call. Dr. Mehmet Oz and GOP rival Dave McCormick are running neck-and-neck.An automatic recount is now expected to decide who will be the Republican nominee in Pennsylvania for the US Senate.Oz and McCormick traded the top spot for much of election night, typically separated by just a few thousand votes. Minutes later, Oz addressed his supporters.”So, we’re not going to have a result tonight. When all the votes are tallied, I’m confident we’ll win,” Oz said. “We are making a ferocious charge, but when it’s this close, what else do you expect.” Uncounted votesThere are still ballots that need to be counted in key counties. In Allegheny County, 33 precincts out of 1,323, have still not fully reported. According to a message posted on the Board of Election website, “There will be no more updates until after the Return Board convenes on Friday, May 20, at 9 a.m.”In Lancaster County, a printing error has been blamed for delays counting 22,000 mail-in ballots. Election workers will have to set aside all problem ballots, remark them and then scan them. That process was scheduled to begin Wednesday morning.

McCormick spoke to supporters late Tuesday night, telling them that the race in the Pennsylvania Primary was too close to call.
