Kellyanne Conway Slams Hack Journo Taylor Lorenz
Kellyanne Conway, former special counselor to President Donald Trump, is back in the political spotlight with her new memoir Here’s The Deal. Conway dedicated part of the book to discussing the circumstances surrounding her daughter Claudia’s rise to internet fame after Washington Post Reporter Taylor Lorenz utilized Conway’s 15-year-old daughter for a game of political “gotcha.”
Lorenz shot Conway’s daughter into the viral stratosphere when she posted a thread of Claudia’s TikToks to her massive Twitter following, adding “Claudia Conway is not holding back.” Unbeknownst to Kellyanne Conway at the time, Lorenz– a woman in her mid-thirties– admitted to privately messaging Conway’s daughter about getting the teen girl more followers.
The New York Post reported that Conway initially had no idea about Lorenz’s post and “first heard her daughter was going ‘viral’ in July 2020 when a reporter from Yahoo! News texted her late at night,” about the new internet sensation.
“This of course is the dream of every teenage girl who is on social media,” Conway wrote, “but her parents’ nightmare.”
Lorenz weaponized the teenager’s angsty anti-Trump posts to target Conway, who was still the special counselor to President Trump at the time. Conway immediately became fearful for her daughter’s life when she learned of Lorenz shoving the child into the spotlight, “Terror for Claudia’s safety. No stranger to the spotlight herself,” Conway added, “Instant fame brings instant chaos as I well know.”
Conway was in disbelief that Lorenz had thrown her daughter out to her 200,000 Twitter followers “any one of whom could now paw through the daily details of my teenage daughter’s life and whatever thoughts and emotions might have passed through her active mind.”
Recently, Lorenz has found herself in a new string of controversies after the moral-less hall monitor doxxed and harassed the owner of Libs of TikTok, a page dedicated to exposing radical leftists by posting their own words and videos. Lorenz then claimed that she was harassed by a Drudge reporter in retaliation, allegations she later walked back.
Following the initial panic that ensued after Lorenz’s thread, Conway recalled her countless attempts to reach out to her husband George Conway to help alleviate the situation, and having her distressed calls and texts to him ignored, “He would not answer another call or take any of my desperate texts.”
Her daughter seems to be keenly aware that her fame is intertwined with politics, with her TikToks referencing Trump, her mother, or politics in general averaging 100-500% more engagement than her other videos. To date, Claudia’s most popular TikToks have consistently been those bashing her mother or Trump, a tactic she learned from Lorenz’s original reporting.
Unfortunately, some reporters seem to envy the attention Lorenz received after using Conway’s child as media bait and are following in her footsteps, exploiting the children of Republicans for clicks. One Dallas newspaper tried to copy/paste the Lorenz model, targeting Ted Cruz’s 13-year-old daughter over TikTok videos she made disagreeing with her father’s politics.
Even the opportunities Conway’s daughter received through the fiasco were ripe with political undertones. Claudia landed a spot on American Idol, where they too capitalized on the drama, highlighting her parents as “high profile political figures.”
Shortly after her daughter’s exploitation by Lorenz and the Media for political points, Conway left her position aiding President Trump to spend more time with Claudia and her other three children.
Taylor Lorenz has yet to comment on Conway’s new book.
