‘I’m F***ing Tired Of It’: Sex Pistols Founding Member Says He’d Rather ‘Listen To Steely Dan’

A founding member of the legendary punk band Sex Pistols, Steve Jones, admitted he doesn’t often listen to his music and would “rather listen to Steely Dan,” according to a recent interview with the Telegraph.

“I never really listen to the Pistols’ music anymore,” Jones shared. “I’m f***ing tired of it, to be honest with you. I’d rather listen to Steely Dan.”

The rocker explained later to the Associated Press that his tastes have changed over the years since he’s gotten older.

“I don’t particularly listen to punk rock anymore. My musical tastes have changed a lot over the years, you know, and I’m 66 years old,” Jones said. “I’m not a kid anymore. I think it would be a bit silly if I was still flying that flag. I like Steely Dan. Is that bad?”

He also recently spoke with Rolling Stone magazine about his new book, “Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol,” and the guitarist said that the highlight of his career with the band was recording their only studio album “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,” released in 1977. The band split up a year later.

“It’s an album that was so bizarre for these 19, 20-year-olds to do in the structure of the songs,” Jones explained. “It’s just one of them classic albums, if you will. I’m not pumping myself up. But it’s a bizarre record.”

“We didn’t go for like, ‘We need to write a hit song for the record company,’” he added. “There was none of that. But there’s a lot of catchy bits in some of the songs. I don’t know. It’s just a real weird album. When I do listen to it, I love it.”

The group’s history includes its anti-authoritarian anthem “God Save the Queen,” which was released during the 1977 Silver Jubilee that marked Queen Elizabeth II’s 25 years on the throne.

However, the group definitely appears to be singing a new tune now, with Jones sharing that he’s “not against” the four-day jubilee extravaganza. The queen is celebrating this week her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne. And in honor of the monarch’s rule, the band re-released the song.
