FACT CHECK: Does This Picture Show Justin Trudeau In A Tigger Costume?
An image shared on Facebook claims to show Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posing in a “Tigger” costume.
Verdict: False
There is no record of Trudeau wearing such a costume. The image appears to be altered.
Fact Check:
A Facebook photo purportedly shows Trudeau wearing a costume of Tigger, a fictional character from the Winnie the Pooh children series, and Spider-Man underwear. “Justin ‘Tigger’ Trudeau” reads text included in the image.
“This creature now identifies as the Dictator of Canada – the shithole,” reads the post’s caption. (RELATED: Did Justin Trudeau Call On Canadians To ‘Make Life Difficult’ For Unvaccinated Citizens In A Facebook Post?)
The photo appears to be digitally fabricated. Check Your Fact found no credible source for it. A reverse image search reveals various iterations of it have been shared online as far back as 2008. The earliest iterations show another man, not Trudeau. The image appears to have been edited many times over the years, with one version showing the face of YouTuber Jake Paul while another shows the face of Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz.
This is not the first time misinformation has spread online regarding Trudeau’s apparel. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim that Trudeau wore a kilt to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2021. In actuality, the photo showed him at the Glengarry Highland Games in Canada.
Trudeau announced on May 30 that he would be introducing a bill to place a freeze on all handgun ownership in Canada, according to CNN. “What this means is that it will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada,” Trudeau said during the announcement.
Check Your Fact has reached out to Trudeau’s office for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
