Climate Activists Call out Democrats, Plan to ‘Shut Down’ Congressional Baseball Game

A coalition of climate activists is threatening to disrupt the upcoming Congressional Baseball Game in an effort to pressure Democrats in Congress to pass “sweeping climate legislation.”

The event, scheduled for July 28 at Nationals Park in Washington, continues a century-old bipartisan tradition in which Democrat and Republican members of Congress play a friendly baseball game to raise money for charity.

The activists, however, vowed to not allow the game to happen, accusing the Democrat players of not doing enough to address climate change.

“Democratic leaders are failing us,” declared the group under the banner of “Now or Never,” saying that the lawmakers “mingle with billionaires and pretend everything is fine” while “ice melts” and “seas rise.”

“On July 28th, we will converge en masse on the Congressional Baseball Game,” their website reads. “If our politicians have failed to deliver, we will shut it down.”

According to the website, if there is no “strong climate legislation” by Aug. 5, the activists will “take direct action in protest of the DNC” in four key states—Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Arizona.

“September 30th is our last stand. On this day, Congress is scheduled to leave Washington for an extended recess that lasts through the November election,” they added. “If no major climate legislation has passed by this date, we will organize a highly disruptive, mass direct action that fundamentally disrupts business-as-usual in DC.”

The threat comes after protesters on July 4 blocked traffic on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway outside Washington for more than 90 minutes, resulting in a dozen arrests. Climate alarmist group Declare Emergency claimed responsibility and said they acted to demand President Joe Biden to declare a “state of climate emergency.”
