Many Americans Think Neither Trump Nor Biden Should Run in 2024, Polls Find
Two polls released Tuesday show that a large swath of Americans think that neither former President Donald Trump nor President Joe Biden should run for office again in 2024.
Politico/Morning Consult polling found that 35% of Americans think Trump should run in the 2024 election: 25% of Americans think he “definitely” should run, while 10% think he “probably” should run.
But 61% of Americans think he should not run again. The poll found: 48% of Americans believe Trump should “definitely not” run, and 13% think he should “probably not” run.
That same poll found that about 28% of Americans think Biden should run for president in 2024: 14% of Americans think he “definitely” should, and another 14% think he “probably” should, Politico reported.
But the polling also found that 64% of Americans think he should not run again: 46% of Americans believe Biden should “definitely not” run, while 18% think he should “probably not” run again.
Similarly, a New York Times/Siena College poll released Tuesday found that almost half of Republican voters are looking beyond Trump for a presidential candidate in 2024, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is the most favorable alternative.
These are not the first polls to expose such attitudes — a June 10 Yahoo/YouGov poll found 64% of respondents do not think Biden should run for re-election, and 55% of respondents did not believe Trump should run again.
When the November 2024 elections arrive, Biden will be almost 82 years old, while Trump will be 78.
“The failing New York Times is down 40% year-to-date because they are Fake News,” Trump said in a Tuesday statement, apparently in response to the polling. “Their reporters are dishonest, and their front page has become a work of total fiction, not news. They hate our Country, and they hate reporting the truth, which is why America is not respected and our Nation has never been weaker.”

“The New York Times will continue to decline because people no longer believe their reporting is even close to being true,” he added. “Fake polls, phony stories, and made up quotes — they are a disgrace to journalism and have set it back many many years. THE NEW YORK TIMES IS TRULY THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”
Politico conducted that polling online between July 8 and July 10 with a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points. The Times surveyed 849 registered voters nationally over the phone between July 5 and July 7 with a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
