An image shared on Facebook purportedly shows a screenshot of a tweet about cats from a verified Nintendo Twitter account.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence Nintendo sent this tweet. The tweet appears to stem from a parody account.

Fact Check:

Nintendo is a Japanese video game company responsible for producing gaming systems such as the Nintendo Switch. An image shared on Facebook claims the company recently sent a strange tweet about cats.

The image shows what appears to be a tweet from the verified Nintendo of America Twitter account that reads, “Meow, meow, meow! Nothing feels better than inside of a cat.” Despite the tweet allegedly being deleted, according to text included in the image, an image of it has since gone viral on Twitter.

There is no evidence the company sent such a tweet. It could not be found on any of the company’s verified Twitter accounts or on archived versions of the verified Nintendo for America account. There are likewise no credible news reports to corroborate the authenticity of the alleged tweet.

An internet search reveals the same tweet was shared by the account @NintendoUpd8s, a Nintendo parody account, in February 2021.

Someone likely altered that image to make it appear as if the company sent the tweet on its verified Twitter account.

Check Your Fact has reached out to Nintendo and will update this article accordingly if a response is provided.
