‘Cynical And Hypocritical’: CNN Panel Slams Dems For Meddling In GOP Primaries
A CNN panel tore into Democrats for promoting Republican candidates endorsed by former President Donald Trump Wednesday night.
“I think it is incredibly cynical and hypocritical,” CNN reporter John Avlon told host Don Lemon. “I teed off on this the other day on reality check particularly because — when they bought $400,000 ad buy against Peter Meijer.”
The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) have each spent large sums of money boosting more conservative candidates backed by former President Donald Trump in Republican primaries. The DCCC reportedly made the ad buy to boost John Gibbs, who is challenging Republican Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan.
“Here is a guy who is an army veteran, rising star in the party, represents Gerald Ford’s old district, somebody who voted to impeach Donald Trump, someone who voted to not — to certify the election, someone who voted for the gun reform bill, somebody who voted to protect same-sex marriages,” Avlon added. “And these are folks, one week out, the DCCC going to take $400,000 ad buy against to build up a name ID of his opponents?” (RELATED: CNN Panel Rips Dems For ‘Meddling’ In GOP Primaries To Boost Pro-Trump Candidates)

The meddling has brought condemnation from prominent Democrats.
“If @RepLizCheney or @AdamKinzinger were running in swing districts, would that justify Dems funding Trump-endorsed, extremist candidates in @GOP primary in order to try to get an edge in the general?” David Axelrod, a former adviser to former President Barack Obama, asked in a Twitter post, referring to the two outspoken Trump critics House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appointed to the Jan. 6 committee.
