‘CODA’ Star Must Undergo ‘Very Complicated Surgery’ After Suffering ‘Delicate’ Injuries In Accident
“CODA” star Eugenio Derbez must undergo “very complicated surgery” after he sustained “delicate” injuries in an accident, according to his wife, Alessandra Rosaldo.
Derbez’s wife shared a statement in Spanish on Instagram as she detailed that the “Overboard” star would be okay after he was injured in an unspecified accident, NBC News translated and reported on Tuesday.
“He is fine, however the injuries he suffered are delicate… The operation is very complicated but it does not compromise his health,” Rosaldo, a Mexican actress, singer, and dancer shared. “The recovery process will be long and difficult since he will have to rest for several weeks and then undergo rehabilitation therapies.”

The statement reportedly did not explain how the actor was injured. However, viewers on the Mexican morning show “Sale el Sol” were told that Derbez was in Atlanta, where he injured his shoulder and broke it in several spots while wearing a virtual reality helmet, Yahoo! News noted.
Derbez, 60, a Mexican actor, started appearing in American films in the 2010s. He starred in “Jack and Jill” and “How to Be a Latin Lover,” alongside Salma Hayek and Kristen Bell.
At the 94th Academy Awards show, Derbez joined the rest of the cast of “CODA” on stage after the film won Best Picture of the Year.
“CODA“ is an acronym for Child of Deaf Adults, and the 2021 film is based on the 2014 French film “La Famille Belier,” as The Daily Wire previously reported.
“CODA” director Sian Heder brought on real-life deaf actors to take on the lead family member roles of this film: Academy award-winner actress Marlee Matlin as wife/mother Jackie Rossi; husband/father Frank Rossi is played brilliantly by Troy Kotsur; and their son Leo Rossi is played by Daniel Durant. Actress Emilia Jones took on the role of 17-year-old daughter/sister Ruby, who spent her life interpreting her family’s entire world for them. Derbez plays Ruby’s choir teacher, Bernardo Villalobos, whose encouragement changes the direction of her and her family’s life forever.
