Heche’s Final Moments
Page Six reported that Heche was trapped in the Los Angeles home for 45 minutes as it burned, after crashing her Mini Cooper into it on August 5th. This information was revealed on Thursday in audio files of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s response to Heche’s accident in the Mar Vista neighborhood.
“Given the heavy fire and smoke conditions, it wasn’t that you could clearly see into the vehicle or clearly be able to access it,” Deputy Chief Richard Fields told NBC4 of the scene.
The recordings reveal that firefighters arrived at the scene at 11:01 am, realizing within seconds that somebody was “stuck inside the vehicle.” However, Fields has since clarified that firefighters were referring to homeowner Lynne Mishele at the time.

At 11:18 am, firefighters said that they thought that there were no other victims, but they caught sight of Heche at 11:25, who was described as being “inaccessible” in her car and “pushed up against the floorboard.”
Fields declared, “Where the person was in the vehicle was not in the driver’s seat, but on the floorboard of the passenger seat.”
The firefighters managed to extricate Heche from the Mini Cooper at 11:49 am, and she was then “assessed” and “loaded” onto a gurney. The Los Angeles Police Department was quickly able to get a warrant to test Heche’s blood, and it was later revealed that while she had no alcohol in her system, she did have cocaine.
Never to regain consciousness, Heche went into a coma immediately after the accident, with her rep saying on August 11 that she had “suffered a severe anoxic brain injury” and was “not expected to survive.” The actress was kept on life support for a week because she wanted to “donate her organs,” so she was kept alive to see if she was a match. After finally being taken off life support, Heche died on August 12.
“Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend,” a representative said in a statement after her death was announced.

Heche’s Sons Speak Out
Heche has been buried at the famous Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with her sons Homer, 20, and Atlas, 13 — whom she shared with Coleman Laffoon and James Tupper, respectively — picking the location.
“My brother Atlas and I want to thank Tyler, Noelle and all the amazing people at Hollywood Forever for their kindness, compassion and generosity of spirit,” Homer said in a statement obtained by Page Six. “We are convinced our Mom would love the site we have chosen for her; it’s beautiful, serene, and she will be among her Hollywood peers.”
He went on to declare that they chose Hollywood Forever because it’s “a living place, where people attend movies and concerts and other events.”
“She was our Mom, but the kindness and the outpouring of the past few days reminded us that she also belongs to her fans, to the entertainment community, and now, to the ages,” Homer continued.
Appearing in movies like Six Days, Seven Nights, and television shows like Ally McBeal, Anne Heche was a famous actress for decades. While we continue to be thankful that she didn’t hurt anyone else in her reckless decision to drive under the influence, we are also saddened by her death and will continue to pray for her family and friends.
