Pentagon’s Education “Diversity Chief” Has to Go
A key education specialist for the Department of Defense has made tweets so patently racist that it is evident she should never have been hired for her job. Then again, her job shouldn’t exist in the first place.
Last December, the Department of Defense Education Activity, which oversees K-12 education for dependents of department personnel, hired Kelisa Wing as its chief of “diversity, equity, and inclusion.” As reported by American Military News, “Wing is outspoken about her [self-described] ‘woke’ political views, having coauthored children’s books like ‘What is White Privilege?’ ‘What Does it Mean to Defund the Police?’ and ‘What is Anti-Racism?’”
Those books alone should have made her ineligible for a policy job with the military. A political ideologue with a racialist agenda should be nowhere near responsibility for K-12 education, especially for a Defense Department dedicated to protecting everyone regardless of race or creed. What’s worse is that, as reported by Fox News on Sept. 13, Wing’s Twitter feed and public record contained a plethora of objectively racist statements disparagingly categorizing white people in general. With such a record, she never should have been hired.
“Exhausted at these white folx,” she wrote. “This lady actually had the CAUdacity to say that black people can be racist too.” Note that “CAUdacity” is supposed to mean “Caucasian audacity” — apparently synonymous with the true and time-honored belief that racial hatred is always wrong, no matter who engages in it.
Wing also seems fond of the word “whiteness” as an indicator of character traits and wrote: “I am exhausted by 99% of the white men in education and 95% of the white women. Where can I get a break from white nonsense for a while?”
Her book, according to Fox, “stated that White people must ‘spend’ their privilege by becoming social justice activists. ‘Address how your identity can help you achieve racial justice.’”
This is utter garbage.
In the name of supposedly fighting racism, Wing has repeatedly and outspokenly made sweeping, disparaging generalizations about white people. In the name of education, she advocates political training for young children to fight for her very narrow-minded definition of “social justice.” This woman seems obsessed with race and is a dedicated ideologue. She belongs nowhere near a position in which she can impel teachers to infuse young minds with racial animus toward others.
The very position of a chief of diversity, equity, and inclusion should be abolished as superfluous. Federal law and Defense Department policy both provide ample protections for civil rights and against racial discrimination. The U.S. services already boast an overall officer corps with similar levels of racial diversity to the general U.S. population. There is no need for a layer of bureaucracy dedicated to DEI — especially one with an extreme agenda aimed at “equity,” which, unlike “equality,” is a leftist term of art for social engineering to create equal “outcomes” rather than mere equality before the law.
The military, while providing for the nation’s defense, should punish racist actions in its ranks. It should not be pushing a racialist political agenda that divides its own personnel. And it certainly shouldn’t put an anti-white activist in a position to ride herd on teachers of children.
