Pelosi Actually Thinks Democrats Will Sweep Midterms
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed the Democrats will sweep the midterms and hold the House in the wake of the backlash to the Roe v. Wade decision and the January 6 riots.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, Pelosi displayed optimism that could be easily interpreted as delusionment.
Pelosi, 82, predictably made a dig at Donald Trump, suggesting the show should bleep out his name.
“I believe that we will hold the House,” Pelosi said to applause.
“We will hold the House by winning more seats. We won the 40 seats, then we lost some when Trump was on the ballot, we lost some on the Trump districts, but we held enough seats to hold the House with him on the ballot. He’s not on the ballot now,” the Speaker added.
After mentioning Trump, Pelosi apologized for uttering his name.
“Oh, did I say his name? I didn’t mean to,” Pelosi said.
Colbert retorted: “We’ll have the videotapes fumigated.”
Pelosi replied: “Perhaps you can bleep that out.”
The seemingly deluded House Speaker then explained why she believes Democrats would perform well in the November 8 midterms.
“The greatest influx of candidates came forward [after January 6], young people, people of color, people of different generations, different backgrounds, and the rest,” Pelosi said.
“The beautiful diversity of America came forward. They didn’t pay attention to those pundits who said, ‘You can’t win,’” she added.
“When Roe v. Wade came down, boom, we were totally ready. And that just caused a whole different attitude on the part of some about whether we could win,” Pelosi continued.
Colbert then noted how the polls suggested the race for the House was very tight and a huge Democrat win in the midterms wasn’t on the cards.

Pelosi jumped in, declaring Joe Biden is a “great president,” praising the “remarkable” job he has done in office – believing it will help her party gain seats.
“Working together, we’ve accomplished so much. And that is beginning to have some appreciation… The president has done a remarkable job, and we have been proud,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi’s remarks come days after former Clinton advisor James Carville predicted that Liz Cheney would become Speaker of the House.
“The second prediction is, the next Speaker of the House is — drumroll, please — Liz Cheney,” he continued.
“It is a very possible outcome that the Republicans win the House by three seats,” he said.
“Y’all have got to remember something: The entire House elects the Speaker. Being Speaker is like being Pope.,’ he added.
