‘I Never Quit’: Eva Mendes Says She’s Shifting ‘The Narrative’ That She Left Hollywood
Superstar Eva Mendes said she’s shifting “the narrative” about her career in Hollywood and said she “never quit acting” as she hit back at numerous headlines claiming otherwise.
The 48-year-old actress said she didn’t “stop acting” or “quit acting” in a post she shared Friday on Instagram.
“I never quit acting,” Mendes captioned her post. “I wanted to be home with my babies and fortunately my other business ventures allowed me to do that more than acting would.”
“Also, I was not excited about the stereotypical roles being offered to me at the time,” she added. “Especially after working on the film LOST RIVER -that was a dream project. That’s a tough act to follow.”
“What’s the point of this post?” Mendes continued. “To shift that narrative. I never quit.”
The “Ghost Rider” star’s post included a handful of headlines. One headline in NBC News read, “Why Did Eva Mendes Stop Acting? She opens up in an Interview.” Another from Parade read, “Eva Mendes Reveals Why She Quit Acting.” One in Variety read, “Eva Mendes on Quitting Acting: ‘I Don’t Really Miss It.’” While the “Today” show’s headline read, “Eva Mendes Opens up about why she stopped acting.”
“I got tired of fighting for the good roles,” the “Hitch” star previously told NBC. “There just was a point where I thought, ‘I’m going to create my own opportunities and become a producer on things and create my own material,’ but it just didn’t feel worth it to me.”
“There are more opportunities for Latina actresses now, but when I bowed out 10 years ago I wasn’t being offered things that weren’t specifically Latina,” the actress told Variety. “It is exciting that things are different now, so who knows what I will do in the future. But right now, I’m keeping it in the home with my kids.”
Mendes is married to actor Ryan Gosling and the two have two daughters together, Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 6.
She was last seen on the big screen in 2014 when she appeared alongside her real life partner/director Gosling in the movie “The Lost River.”
