Sen. Romney ‘Pretty Certain’ Trump Would Win 2024 GOP Nomination ‘In A Landslide’

Sen. Mitt Romney, no enthusiast of previous President Donald Trump, admitted previously this week he could be “confident” Trump would earn the 2024 GOP nomination “in a landslide” if he seeks it.

Speaking Tuesday with Andrew Ross Sorkin of THE BRAND NEW York Times, Romney conceded that Trump remains the dominant push in the Republican Party.

“May President Trump continue steadily to play a function in my own party? I’m sure he’ll,” Romney said. “He’s got by far the biggest voice and a large impact in my own party. I don’t find out about his family people, if they intend to do this, but I expect he’ll continue playing a job.”

“I don’t understand if he’ll operate in 2024 or not, but if he really does, I’m pretty sure he’ll earn the nomination,” Romney continued.

Acknowledging that “a great deal can occur between now and 2024,” Romney said “the polls show that, one of the brands being floated as possible contenders in 2024, in the event that you put President Trump inside among Republicans he wins in a landslide.”

Romney nevertheless maintained he could not vote for Trump, even though he does operate again. “I’d not end up being voting for President Trump once again. I haven’t voted for him before. I’d be getting behind someone in the small wing of the Republican Celebration that I represent.”

Romney was the only real Republican senator to vote and only impeaching Trump for abuse of power during his first impeachment trial. He was also among the seven GOP senators to vote for convicting Trump through the second impeachment trial.

In exactly the same interview, Romney also remarked that populism is really a dominant force in both parties. “There’s a populist movement on the proper in this country and on the Left. They’re not going away anytime soon. Although I think as time passes policies that endure, and that basically help the American family, could be more successful. Trump allies told Axios the other day that Trump plans to say himself during his upcoming speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) because the dominant figure in the Republican Party and the “presumptive 2024 nominee.”

According to Axios, “A longtime adviser called Trump’s speech a ‘show of force,’ and said the message will undoubtedly be: ‘I might not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I’m still in control.’ Payback is his chief obsession.” He reportedly plans to be always a kingmaker in the 2022 primaries, when he hopes to greatly help primary campaigns contrary to the Republicans who crossed him. Trump’s PAC, Save America, is flush with $75 million.

“Trump effectively may be the Republican Party,” Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told Axios. “The only real chasm is between Beltway insiders and grassroots Republicans round the country. Once you attack President Trump, you’re attacking the Republican grassroots.”
