Not only did he hit the game winning field goal, but he did while playing with a hamstring injury that he suffered after hitting the first extra point of the game.

Chargers coach Brandon Staley confirmed the injury in a post-game press conference saying, “He had a hamstring like kind of cramp/strain. It just didn’t feel right.”

Following the game winning field goal, Hopkins spoke with ESPN’s Lisa Salters, where he gave all glory to Jesus Christ.

When asked about how he gritted the game out, Hopkins told Salters, “Before I directly answer that I just want to say thank you to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I’ve got so much to be thankful apart from football and so when something like this happens I’m blessed either way. But to be on the good side of that is obviously, it feels a lot better.”

Hopkins went on to address his injury saying, “I was hurting pretty good. We will go back inside and try to figure out what that looks like.”

He elaborated, “It was weird. I felt good pre-game and everything, coming back from last week being out, but I felt good. And then that first extra point I just felt a pop and it kind of went down hill from there.”

Hopkins provided some more details when he spoke to ESPN Deportes after the game, “It was that very first extra point. I felt good all through warm-ups and everything through the week. I just felt it pop as I came through. So that’s never a good thing.”

“With kicking there is no back up,” he continued. “We don’t have another active kicker. I knew the team needed me and we’ll deal with what this looks like going forward when the game was over.”
