Nets’ Steve Nash Ejected After Wild Sideline Outburst
Steve Nash’s night ended early.
The Nets coach was ejected from Wednesday night’s game in Milwaukee after receiving a pair of technical fouls.
Nash was upset with the lack of a call against Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo — he felt Patty Mills took a forearm to the throat — in the third quarter. The Nets head man went ballistic and had to be restrained while attempting to get answers from official Josh Given on the sidelines.
“I was just standing up for our guys,” Nash told reporters after the 110-99 collapse. “I thought Patty took a forearm in the throat from Giannis right in front of the ref and I didn’t think that was fair. I don’t think I was overly demonstrative. I was upset that I got a tech.”
Nash wasn’t the only Net to take issue with the officiating on Wednesday. Kevin Durant was the recipient of a technical foul after clapping in the direction of a referee. Antetokounmpo drew a foul against the Brooklyn scorer earlier in the quarter, resulting in Durant’s umbrage.
Durant appeared to appreciate his coach’s fire, slapping hands with Nash as he left the court after getting tossed.
“I watched him play for 20 years,” Durant said postgame. “I’ve seen him talk sh-t to the refs… My first few years Steve used to talk so crazy to the refs, so when he didn’t get a tech as a coach, I’m like ‘where is that sh-t?’ Because he’s feisty.”
