Rupert Murdoch Reportedly Won’t Back Trump in 2024
New reports indicate Fox Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch is refusing to back Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election and may even get behind a Democrat candidate instead.
The report from ‘i’, a British newspaper, claims Murdoch has responded to the midterm disaster befalling the GOP by telling Trump the failure of his candidates to carry a red wave to fruition has “put an end” to the former President’s political career.
“There have been conversations between them during which Rupert made it clear to Donald that we cannot back another run for the White House,” one News Corporation source allegedly said.
They also suggest that Murdoch’s son, Lachlan, chief executive of Fox News’ parent company Fox Corporation, has indicated the media outlet would get behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis instead.
The shocking report also advises that should 2024 come down to a rematch between President Biden and Trump, the organization would remain neutral, but if the Democrats go a different route, the Murdoch family would be “open to backing another Democrat candidate.”

Rupert Murdoch Appears to Be Done With Trump
The New York Post and Wall Street Journal, two other media outlets owned by Rupert Murdoch, appear to be pushing the ‘get off the Trump train’ narrative following the midterms.

The Journal alone ran six separate op-eds critical of the former President, with one titled “Trump Is the Republican Party’s Biggest Loser.”
The editorial board notes that Trump has suffered electoral setbacks in nearly every election cycle since his surprise victory in 2016.
The Post, meanwhile, has run two covers of late with one mocking the Republican leader as “Trumpty Dumpty” and another suggesting DeSantis is “DeFuture” of the GOP.

What is He Thinking?
Rupert Murdoch appears to have gone full Never-Trumper, according to this report. I get throwing his weight behind Ron DeSantis as a viable alternative, but can he honestly name one Democrat who would be a superior President in 2024?
The i newspaper notes that the stars would have to align almost perfectly for Fox to support a ‘non-Biden’ Democrat.
“A lot of things would have to fall into place for that to happen. Joe would not be running, and the Democrats would have to have a new strong candidate,” the source relayed. “And that is not Kamala.”
Why does anyone still watch Fox News?? Murdoch will back a DEMOCRAT over Trump. Sounds a lot like Karl Rove and his super PAC. 🤔
These people aren’t conservatives, they’re just Trump-haters. And they think they can tell you who the next POTUS should be.https://t.co/vJBC4FHBIS

That said, this isn’t exactly news out of left field.
The Political Insider reported in 2017 that Murdoch had instructed the late Roger Ailes, CEO and founder of Fox News, to “tilt to anyone but Trump.”
The revelation came about in a column by journalist Michael Wolff who spoke to Ailes.
“Murdoch instructed Ailes to tilt to anyone but Trump, Ailes confided to me before he was fired,” he wrote. “Even Hillary.”

Shortly after Donald Trump announced his candidacy in 2015, Murdoch tweeted that the Republican was not only embarrassing his friends, but the entire country.

alone the whole country?— Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) July 19, 2015
Vanity Fair described Murdoch’s recent turn against Trump as “knee(ing)” him “in the balls while he’s doubled over coughing up blood.”
Trump is expected to announce a 2024 run for the White House on Tuesday amidst criticism that he helped drag down Republicans in the midterms.
