FBI Director Wray Won’t Say If He Had Informants Dressed as Trump Supporters at the Capitol on January 6th
FBI Director Christopher Wray said he had to “be very careful” about answering questions about whether the bureau had informants dressed as Trump supporters in the crowd at the Capitol on January 6th.
Wray’s comments came during a hearing held before the House Homeland Security Committee on November 15th.
And it comes just days after the New York Times revealed through court documents that the FBI had as many as eight informants embedded with the “Proud Boys” group in the months leading up to the riot at the Capitol in 2021.
Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA) asked during the hearing, “Did the FBI have confidential human sources embedded within the January 6 protests on January 6, 2021?”
“As I’m sure you can appreciate, I have to be very careful about what I can say about when …” Wray replied before the two engaged in crosstalk.
Rather than answering the question, Wray balked at any possible implication.
“But to the extent there is the suggestion that the FBI’s confidential human sources or FBI employees in some way instigated or orchestrated Jan 6th, that’s categorically false,” he said.

FBI Director Can’t Say if he Had Informants Dressed as Trump Supporters INSIDE the Capitol on January 6th
As remarkable as that was, the exchange between Representative Higgins and FBI Director Christopher Wray grows ever more curious, leading to more questions than answers.
Higgins buttoned up his questioning a bit, getting more specific by asking, “Did you have confidential human sources dressed as Trump supporters inside the Capitol on January 6, prior to the doors being opened?”
That is a very direct question about informants being inside the Capitol first, dressed up as Trump supporters.
“Again, I have to be very careful …,” Wray replied before getting cut off.
“It should be a no!” a perplexed Higgins shot back. “Can you not tell the American people ‘no, we did not have confidential human sources dressed as Trump supporters positioned inside the Capitol on January 6’?”
“You should not read anything into my decision not to share information on confidential human sources,” Wray concluded.

Report: There Were Informants at the Riot
Wray’s evasive testimony, while trying to protect the tactics and techniques used by the FBI and possible informants on January 6th, is bewildering.
Reports have already surfaced that eight informants had been embedded within the “Proud Boys” in the months leading up to the Capitol protest.
The New York Times has also revealed that the FBI had a well-placed informant within the Oath Keepers, another group that allegedly took part in the January 6 riot.

Still, Wray insists nothing should be read into his inability to answer the questions, and any suggestion that his evasiveness means they were there and may have instigated any activity that day is “categorically false.”
There is as of now no evidence that the FBI or other law enforcement helped riled up the crowd in any way. But avoiding direct questions as to what their informants may or may not have been doing that day reflects poorly on Wray and helps add fuel to the conspiracy fire.

The FBI Director seems stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Insist there were no informants and be questioned about the bureau’s inability to spot the danger ahead of time, or admit there were informants and the bureau still failed to stop the riot, or worse, allowed it to happen even with that knowledge.
