Hunter Biden’s Supporters Go on the Offensive
In September, friends of Hunter Biden began meeting to plan how best to help their friend against the investigations coming once Republicans take back the House. They are going on the offensive, that is if they can all come together enough to be on one page. Hunter called into the meeting via video, too.
Hunter’s supporters are divided over two different approaches. The plan is to go after Biden’s accusers, somethng that is right out of any standard Democrat playbook. Blame the accusers, not the person being investigated. Several groups are trying to unify around the best strategy. For example, Hunter Biden’s friend and lawyer Kevin Morris wants the approach to be aggressive. He has in mind filing defamation lawsuits against Hunter’s critics, including against Fox News. He’s done extensive opposition research against potential witnesses, such as Toy Bobulinski, Hunter’s former business partner, and John Paul Mac Isaac, the computer repairman who reported the laptop.
David Brock, the former conservative turned liberal activist, attended the meeting. He is planning a new group, Facts First USA, that will focus on fighting the House GOP investigations. “They feel that there is a whole counternarrative missing because of the whole Hunter-hater narrative out there. What we really got into was more the meat of it, the meat of what a response would look like.”
Hunter Biden has been working with Morris, his friend and sometime financial benefactor, and a team of researchers. The younger Biden has also hired several other lawyers — Chris Clark, who is handling a federal criminal investigation into his business dealings and other matters, along with a separate attorney, Joshua A. Levy, to deal directly with the House investigators.
The White House and the DNC have their own strategies for dealing with what is coming. Bob Bauer, a former White House counsel in Obama’s administration, is ready to represent Joe Biden as his personal lawyer, if needed. Three Democrat-aligned outside groups are ready to provide rapid response and other communications.
The aggressive strategy is not sitting well with other groups. They want Hunter and Morris to step back and let the others paint the Republican investigations as partisan exercises. In other words, lay low and let the professionals wage a publicity war against the Republicans. We’ve seen this before. Democrats portray Republicans as extremist partisans out to get the president’s son and the media will happily go along with them.
Morris, a Hollywood lawyer and novelist who has worked with celebrity clients and the creators of television’s “South Park,” befriended Hunter Biden in 2019, when the president’s son was by his own account recovering from a serious drug addiction. Morris has already attracted the attention of House Republicans, who sent him a letter in June asking about reports that he gave Hunter Biden some $2 million to help pay off a tax bill that is a subject of the federal investigation.
Some involved in these efforts argue that Hunter Biden and Morris should stay out of the limelight so Democrats can focus on painting the Republican investigations as a partisan political exercise. “No one thinks this strategy of putting Hunter Biden front and center is smart,” said one Democrat involved in the broader effort, who requested anonymity to describe private conversations. “No one, including the White House, thinks this is a smart strategy.”
You may remember it is Kevin Morris that paid off Hunter’s $2M IRS debt. Hunter called Morris his “sugar brother.” He is the subject of a legal ethics complaint over sending ‘threatening’ texts to a group investigating the laptop. That was reported by the Daily Mail in October.
In texts exclusively obtained by DailyMail.com, Hollywood entertainment lawyer Kevin Morris called a member of right wing transparency group Marco Polo a ‘f***ing moron’, ‘f***nuts’, said ‘I’m going to take all your money’, ‘I know where you live’ and ‘You’re going to enjoy being a buttboy for 20 years dude. Lube up.’
Morris sent the crude texts to a Marco Polo investigator, who had been messaging the lawyer posing as a potential ally for Hunter’s defense case.
He sounds nice. Is this what is to come?
If I was an adviser, which I most certainly am not, I would tell Hunter to make himself a part of the background as long as Joe Biden is president. Putting him out front is crazy. Have you ever heard Hunter speak in an interview or an exchange with a reporter? He’s all about Hunter and isn’t particularly articulate in what he says. As it is, the White House has set about normalizing Hunter’s presence at White House events and at formal affairs with his father and Jill. He’s under federal investigation and about to be a subject in House investigations. He should be trying to blend in with the scenery, not enjoy the spotlight.
The White House strategy will be that Hunter is the president’s son, not an elected official or government employee. They will paint Republicans as partisans wrongfully trying to go after the president’s son instead of working on the country’s problems.
“The president loves his son and is proud that he has overcome his addiction and is moving forward with his life,” said Ian Sams, a White House spokesman handling the upcoming House investigations. “Congressional Republicans’ politically motivated partisan attacks on the president and his family are rooted in nonsensical conspiracy theories and do nothing to address the real issues Americans care about.”
White House officials have previously said they plan to minimize their cooperation with investigations like the Hunter Biden inquiry that they view as politically motivated, while honoring GOP-led probes on more substantive topics like the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan.
The question has never been whether or not Joe Biden loves his son. The question is whether or not Joe Biden, the leader of the free world, is compromised due to the business dealings of Biden, Inc. I hope the focus is mainly on Joe Biden’s connection into Hunter’s deals and those of his brother, James, instead of just Hunter. The president seems to have received a 10% kickback from Hunter’s very lucrative deals with nefarious foreign actors. The Democrats claiming conspiracy theories no longer have a point since Senators Grassley and Johnson’s extensive investigation into Hunter’s business dealings, particularly with Chinese businessmen, and the paper trail they have constructed. That is how the House should proceed. They should concentrate on quiet, professional fact-gathering and present their findings. Let the chips fall where they may for the president.
