CBP Soliciting Bids for Border Construction
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol is soliciting bids for up to $400 million a task to build barriers along the southern border.
The contractors are being asked to design and construct “border barriers, anti-climb features, enforcement zones, roads, gates, bridges, drainage control, cattle guards, lighting, detection systems, cameras, towers, and communication fiber,” according to the Department of Homeland Security’s solicitation posted Tuesday.
Contractors can take on multiple tasks and earn up to $1 billion from the government over five years.
Although President Biden promised when he took office to not build “another foot” of border wall, Homeland Security has already announced some construction plans. Earlier this year, the agency said it would close gaps in Arizona’s border wall.
Plans to build a border wall come as Democrat and Republican lawmakers have expressed concerns about illegal migration, which hit a record high last year.
