Allen West: New Year’s Resolution for the Republican Party

It is the time of year when many people make New Year’s Resolutions. Many will focus on getting in shape. This is something I recommend. Others will focus on other aspects of a better life. In the South, the first meal of the New Year is usually made up of black-eyed poas for good fortune and collards greens for prosperity. If we want to see success and prosperity in our constitutional republic, we need the Republican Party’s commitment to a very important and vital resolution.

If you were paying attention, you saw again in the days prior to Christmas how Washington, D.C. was broken. One thing Congress is required to do is create a budget. This collection of so-called elected officials fails to pass 12 appropriations bills each year to fund the operation and maintenance of the federal government. Instead of following the law, Congress delays until the very last moment. Instead of following the law, they force Omnibus bills to fund their massive spending. This time, $1.7 trillion will need to be borrowed. America does not need increased government spending at a time when inflation is still high.

The Senate Republicans, along with some House Republicans, could have prevented this folly. They would have resolutely taken fiscal responsibility and adhered to regular order. As we all know, the Senate Republicans caved as usual.

The Republican Party may be able to make a resolution for the New Year to find a new spine. It is obvious that progressive socialist left knows that Republican Party elected officials cannot be forced into submission. Let’s stop believing in the empty threat. “government shutdown.” The government is never closed. It may actually be beneficial to expose who and which items are non-essential within the federal government. This is similar to how the government determined who was essential in the private sector during COVID. The government is notorious for giving back pay whenever it can. “shutdown” ends. This is not what happens to small businesses. They simply go under.

Republicans should not try to avoid the confrontation with the progressive socialist Left. One example is the Biden administration’s leftists, who have decided to subvert the sovereignty and open up the borders of the United States. Arizona and Texas are the two main states that have been affected, with both Republican governors and majority legislatures. Both these states have the Constitution of the United States on their side. Yet, over the last two years, almost 5 million illegals crossed into the respective states. Another 1 million have been designated. “got aways.” Why haven’t we seen resolute, definitive actions by the governors of these respective states to secure the border?

Arizona just surrendered to the federal government’s demands to end the placement of boxcars on the border. After Joe Biden, who was traveling to Arizona, admitted that he wasn’t going to the border as there were more important matters, this is what happened. We have seen Texas see half measures and optics but no sealing of the border. Tucker Carlson, Texas governor, stated last week that he would make you a president and a folk hero if he took action.

The Republican Party has a clear reluctance to face the progressive socialist left on politie and fight. What is worse is the GOP party’s reticence to constitutional conservatives who do stand up and face the left on principle, fight, and go on offense. The Omnibus spending bill was not in line with Republican priorities. One has to ask what those priorities are. Because they are encouraged by the retreating and surrendering Republican Party, the progressive socialist left in America and their media allies will continue their insidious attacks on our Constitution. While Democrats are determined when they are in minority, they are more tyrannical in the majority. In both cases, Republicans appease, compromise and negotiate and then eventually capitulate.

The next two-year period is crucial for our Republic. Without a principled, resolute leftist opposition to America’s incessant delusional and deranged Leftism, the GOP political establishment could become irrelevant. It is not honorable to allow the destruction of our country, just as you can have a position in politics.

Because I refuse to give ground to the Left, I love going to college campuses to speak about conservative issues. It is high time that the Republican Party discovered, as they say in military parlance, intestinal fortitude. They should stop making empty excuses about why the party has given up. The left can only progress by intimidation and fearmongering, threats and coercion. Leftists pose a threat to the Republic and its representative democracy. If the GOP continues to allow leftists to define them, Americans will seek out other champions who have the character, wisdom discipline, discernment, will, and will to defend our Nation.

In my military career, I was a part of one action. When I was asked why, I answered: “if it is about the safety and lives of my men, I would go through hell with a gasoline can.” I feel the same about protecting my country and its Constitution against any enemies…foreign and domestic!

Loyal and Steadfast
