Media continues to treat alleged FTX fraudsters with kid gloves
The MSM treats the scammers behind FTX implosion like children, which I find a bit perplexing.
This struck me once more when I saw the headline The Washington Post used for Caroline Ellison’s story about the CEO of Alameda Research. Sam Bankman-Fried was the hedge fund she used to steal billions of FTX clients.
The story purports to be something of a profile of Ellison, although it is short on…pretty much everything, actually. It is very brief, giving only the most basic details about Ellison’s personal life and the fact that she pleaded guilty and cooperated with authorities. And it doesn’t even go into the details of the scandal. You wouldn’t have any new information or insights if you didn’t follow the scandal.
So, why is the story so important? Although it’s difficult to answer, I think the headline was a factor.
It is quite odd to think that Ellison is one the most notorious scammers of all time. Caroline Ellison “wanted to make a difference?” Is that what you are thinking?
She loudly advertised that fact. “fact” When she was busy scamming people. However, this is the only evidence.
Are we willing to listen to con artists about their motives? Ellison and SBF robbed around $8 billion. They spent it on luxury real estate, purchasing political favors and paying off the media.
This is a major spin on this story, based on the absurd assertions that the FTX group kept making about it “effective altruism,” The MSM took the story seriously and bought it. FTX became so wealthy and successful because they manipulated MSM to spread the myth that their goal was to do good in the world. They were “effective altruists!”
They promised to prevent pandemics and they were only willing to fulfill their promises. “good guys” (Democrats), and invest their billions in solving the world’s problems.
Instead they sunk other people’s money in a Ponzi scheme, spent zillions of dollars of other people’s money, bought influence, and got filthy rich. SBF currently has a bond of $250 million.
Why are the media still selling their BS to the public? It wouldn’t be THAT hard to turn on the pair, even given how deeply embedded the media was in promoting their phony products. All they have to do is pretend that they weren’t acting like PR flacks for the pair. Instead, they behave like PR flacks at Ellison and SBF.
You have to imagine there is more to the story than just politicians. The situation is already terrible.
One clue is that the duo didn’t just make the campaign contributions of which we are aware–SBF was the 2nd largest donor to the Democrats–but also illegal campaign contributions about which we know little.
SBF was charged with making illegal campaign contributionsThey exist, but we don’t know anything about them. Unlike the contributions already known, these were made through straw donors–SBF funneled money through 3rd parties to campaigns, committees, and God knows who else. The details are currently kept secret. Perhaps people want the details to remain hidden.
This is why conspirators are treated with such care? Is there dirt that the MSM doesn’t want uncovered because it makes the Democrats look bad?
We can only speculate. So speculate away…
