Washington Could Use More Fistfights

The best of both the Productive This weekend’s House speaker deliberations were marred by a bizarre altercation among Matt Gaetz (R-Michael Rogers), two Republican congressmen who are on opposite sides of the McCarthy squabble.

A C-SPAN peek at the House floor showed a frustrated Kevin McCarthy approaching Gaetz after the Florida representative had sunk McCarthy’s 14th attempt at securing the speaker’s gavel. McCarthy left, but Rogers was not able to move towards Gaetz. He was restrained physically with a hand on his face.

Here’s the full “Fight Night” If you haven’t seen it, clip it.

McCarthy officially speaks on Monday. Rogers and Gaetz seem to be in the lead. “hugged it out,” so to speak — and, surprise, surprise, the media are aghast at the “complete meltdown.” It depends on the outlet you visit, but it was an a “wild lunge,” A “dumpster fire,” A “literal floor fight,” And “the defining image of the new Congress” It was none.

Would it be so bad if brawls at the House were the status quo for the new Congress? Frankly, the whole kerfuffle was kind of pathetic and undoubtedly overblown; Rogers didn’t “lunge” At or “attack” Gaetz was so feisty about Gaetz that he took a half-hearted step towards him and was theatrically pulled away. One could argue that Washington would be a better place if there were more fistfights.

The world we live in is very confused when it comes masculinity, strength and conflict. Men are exonerated for their manliness or brute impulses. Then they are left on their own to find the Jordan Petersons among a world of Liver Kings, Andrew Tates and other shaming. It is this same class of armchair people who are first to undermine norms and decorum. And the Lincoln Project and Human Rights Campaign’s sickos are the greatest drama queens about Trumpian crassness.

RedState’s Bonchie made a point that should have been obvious, but was nonetheless important. It would be nice to witness this kind of Republican fire directed against far-left opponents every now and then. “When is the last time you saw a member of the GOP get that animated over yet another omnibus bill being forced down their throats? Or at watching a gun control bill pass against their will? Or at seeing a Democrat Speaker of the House strip their colleagues of committee assignments while ignoring bad behavior from the left?” Bonchie Submitted.

There’s more to it than just being a bit prudent about where to direct their fire. Perhaps the men in Congress will have more success getting things done if their thumbs are out of their arses and they throw some hands. I’m exaggerating a bit, but not much.

There’s something refreshing and healthy about
