George Santos Ignores Calls to Resign

On Wednesday, George Santos, R.N.Y., refused a resignation from Congress after Nassau County Republican leaders urged him to quit following revelations about his qualifications.

Since his midterm election win, Santos has been receiving increasing calls to resign. The first major Republican group to demand Santos’ resignation is the Nassau GOP. It operates in Santo’s congressional District.

“George Santos campaign last year was a campaign of deceit, lies, and fabrication,” Joe Cairo, Chairman of the Nassau County GOP, stated in a statement. “He has no place on the Nassau County Republican committee, nor should he serve public service, nor as an elected official. He’s not welcome here at GOP HQ.”

Santos refused to comment when Fox News Digital reached him on Wednesday morning. Later, he stated to Capitol Hill reporters that his thoughts were with them. “will not” resign.

Gerard Kassar, chairman of the New York State Conservative Party, said that the party joined the GOP’s request for Santos’ resignation on Wednesday.

“The New York State Conservative Party stands with Nassau County Republicans in calling on newly elected Rep. George Santos to resign,” Kassar stated. “Mr. Santos’ profound use of mistruths as a candidate morally disqualifies him from serving in public office and exposes him to potential legal action.”

“It is my hope…that Mr. Santos will voluntarily tender his resignation out of respect for the public and the institution to which he was elected under false pretenses,” He continued. 

Santos is the target of numerous federal, local, and international investigations into allegations of fraud and fabrication in his past. He claimed that he had a finance degree and worked at Citibank and Goldman Sachs while running for Congress. Late December saw Anne Donnelly, Nassau County District attorney open an investigation into Santos.

“The numerous fabrications and inconsistencies associated with Congressman-Elect Santos are nothing short of stunning,” Donnelly stated this in a statement. “The residents of Nassau County and other parts of the third district must have an honest and accountable representative in Congress. No one is above the law and if a crime was committed in this county, we will prosecute it.”

Multiple House Democrats are represented Santos is being called upon to resign Robert Zimmerman, Robert Zimmerman’s midterm opponent, has called for a rematch because of these revelations. Some Republicans even suggested that Santos should be elected. “consider” resigning.

Santos legal problems have recently gotten out of control. Brazilian prosecutors announced plans last week to revive fraud accusations against him. These charges were related to a stolen checkbook.

Prosecutors claim that the case was dead for almost a decade because Brazilian authorities were unable to locate Santos.

According to reports, Brazilian prosecutors are working with the U.S. Justice Department in order to inform Santos about the charges. Fox News Digital reached out to Santos for comment but he did not respond.
