White House Demands McCarthy Disclose Deals Made With GOP Holdouts
The White House calls on Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker to speak. “come clean” About the deals he made to reach an agreement with the group Republican lawmakers that initially opposed his bid for the speakership.
“An unprecedented tax hike on the middle class and a national abortion ban are just a glimpse of the secret, backroom deals Speaker McCarthy made with extreme MAGA members to end this month’s chaotic elections and claim the gavel,” Andrew Bates, White House deputy Press Secretary, said in a statement that was sent to Politico. “It is well past time for Speaker McCarthy and the ultra MAGA Republican House members to come out of the dark and tell the American people, in-full, what they decided in secret.”
McCarthy was finally elected speaker of House of Representatives Jan. 7, 2015, after receiving 216 ballots and five members voting. “present.”
Spencer reportedTo finally convince the anti McCarthy group, there were many concessions, including:
- A single member may request a vote to have the House Speaker removed
- A new subcommittee is investigating the “weaponization of the federal government”
- Vote on important conservative issues, such as border security and a balanced amendment to the budget.
- Increases in the debt ceiling are linked to spending cuts
- Vote on the appropriations bills separately and not through an omnibus
- McCarthy’s leadership PAC will not intervene in open-seat elections in safe Republican House Districts
“The few agreements we know about would fundamentally reshape our economy in a devastating way for working families and criminalize women for making their own health care decisions,” Bates claimed. “They’re also planning to plunge the economy into chaos and take millions of American jobs and 401k plans hostage unless they can cut Medicare.”
Bates was curious about other deals.
“The American people have a right to know — now — which is why we are calling on him to make every single one of them public immediately,” he added.
When asked last week about backroom deals, McCarthy insisted “there’s not a side deal to anything.”
After Republicans called for President Biden’s transparency in handling classified documents, the White House has now demanded that he comply. The documents were discovered at Biden’s Wilmington residence as well as in a private business office.
