Gov. DeSantis Pushes Back on Major Sports Going Woke

As in entertainment, academia, and corporate America, the headquarters of The four major sports leagues Our nation seems to have disappeared “woke” It is a big deal.

Tens of millions were hoping that major league sports would be kept out of the spotlight in a country and world increasingly politicized and polarized. “identity politics” business and continue delivering a product to them that helped their minds to decompress from daily, exponentially increasing anger-filled rhetoric now seeping into all they do, read, and listen to.

It’s not the case. These liberal-to-far-left executives, who make up a large portion of the top offices of major league sports, aren’t about to give their fans a break from this woke tsunami. The exact opposite. They are desperate for virtual hugs from far-left factions, virtue-signaling to their support. “wokeness” Every chance they get.

Here are just a few examples. Consider the case of Major League Baseball’s decision to exile the All Star Game from Atlanta in 2021. Why? Because they were brow-beaten by the woke mob into at least pretending Georgia’s excellent voter integrity law would somehow suppress votes.  Particularly those belonging to minorities. This fabrication has been completely disproved by the facts.

Major League Baseball executives cost Atlanta an estimated $70million or more by genuflecting before the woke mob. Given that metro Atlanta is majority nonwhite, how could the pious MLB executives have done so much harm?

Next we have the “NFL Votes initiative” The league and the NFL Players Association created this joint effort to register as many people as possible two months before the highly contentious 2020 Presidential Election. at NFL stadiums.

One source in the NFL said it: “…voter education, registration, activism.”  Activism being the key word.

According to a former NFL player that I spoke to, “While the league was spinning it as a ‘nonpartisan initiative,’ a number of players and former players believe it was created solely as a platform to help the Democratic Party to defeat Trump and the Republicans.”

Tucker Carlson was among those who opposed more identity politics being forced on sports fans. Carlson said this in part: “So clearly political forces hijack professional sports as a way to brainwash the young men who watch professional sports. That’s, of course, the entire point of it. It’s strategic. But why does nobody push back?”

In another controversy surrounding the National Hockey League Governor Ron DeSantis pushed back. A very large and successful way.

The NHL was openly pushing discrimination – in a pathetic attempt to appear against discrimination – when they sent out another tweet about the “Pathway to Hockey Summit” Fort Lauderdale, Florida, February 2nd: This tweet is part of the job fair. “Participants must be 18 years of age or older, based in the U.S., and identify as female, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and/or a person with a disability…”

Whoops. It sounds like the NHL was intentionally excluding certain other groups. AKA: Discrimination.

The office of Governor Ron DeSantis was also able to see the situation that way, and partially retorted: “Discrimination of any sort is not welcome in the state of Florida, and we do not abide by the woke notion that discrimination should be overlooked if applied in a politically popular manner or against a politically unpopular demographic. We are fighting all discrimination in our schools and our workplaces, and we will fight it in publicly accessible places of meeting or activity.”

After the forceful and correct pushback from the governor’s office the NHL caved and backtracked by not only deleting the original tweet, but by announcing the job fair was suddenly open to anyone over 18 years of age.

For me, I don’t care if someone is straight, gay, trans, black, white, brown, or green.  They should be given the job if they are the best for it. Period. It is not the solution to watering down qualifications or discriminating against other communities in order to address past grievances.

Except, of course, if you happen to be “woke.”

The professional athletes of the NFL, NBA and NHL are not all liberals. However, they are overwhelmingly conservative and believe in God. This is true for a lot of their fans.

Yet, these leagues’ top offices do not seem to care about this two specific demographic. They are getting more. “woke” It seems that they are trying to please one audience: far-left activists, and the organizations they lead.

Ah, the days of fans being able to have a hot-dog and a cold-one and still enjoy sports that aren’t influenced by politics and hate.
