Biden Admin Finally Admits Its Mistake in Canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline
Tom Harris, RealClearEnergy
The Biden administration finally admits what experts know: reckless energy policies can have devastating consequences. The Department of Energy is now quiet released a report highlighting the positive economic effects of developing the Keystone XL pipe from Canada. A project that President Biden canceled in the hours after his inauguration.
But the DOE’s report is a proverbial day late and a dollar short. The cancellation of Keystone XL has already cost the United States thousands in jobs and billions of dollars in economic growth, while families are suffering under record-high energy prices. It’s time for lawmakers to make American energy independence a top priority.

Released without a formal announcement, the DOE’s report points out that the pipeline would have created between 16,149 and 59,000 jobs and would have had an economic benefit of between $3.4 and 9.6 billion. That’s no small impact.
Biden cut the project in half with a single stroke of his pen and instead focused his efforts onto other projects. costly “green energy” goals. He was able to achieve these goals through his executive actions. 11,000 pipeline workers They were immediately told that they would be laid off. “go to work to make solar panels” instead.
But Biden’s green energy efforts are bound to backfire sooner rather than later. That’s because today, more than 70 percent The majority of America’s energy comes from oil, coal and gas. That’s not likely to substantially change anytime soon. The fact is that the International Energy Agency predicts that oil’s share of energy production in the United States will only fall 8 percent in the next two decades, from 31 to 23 percent.
And that’s assuming a sustained commitment to green energy policies. The Biden White House is in for some bad news. Biden ignores Presidents Jimmy Carter (and George H. W. Bush), at his political peril. lost elections due to rising oil prices and subsequent recessions.

Europe’s current situation is a warning sign for the future. European leaders are years ahead of the United States in their quest towards achieving a green utopia, but they’ve seen little success. German candle sales have plummeted due to the dire state of the economy. skyrocketing Families are preparing for power outages during winter. German villages are being ploughed over to make way for digging brown coal, a step necessitated by Germany’s misguided overcommitment to wind and solar power. While these desperate measures may be helpful, they are not sufficient to protect the vulnerable.
Europe’s obsession with green energy and overreliance on Russian gas have resulted in energy cost increases So severe, that 147,000 more people are projected to die This winter was more severe for cold-related illness than if electricity costs had remained at the 2015-19 average.

The prize for dystopian power-saving measures where families are being supported goes to the United Kingdom. bribed In exchange for electricity bill savings and other prizes, you can sit in the dark. If the United States follows in Europe’s green footsteps, it risks ushering in a similarly dark, cold and dismal existence.

American families deserve better. Biden’s administration is fighting a war on energy producers, sabotaging American energy production and trying to create a green energy pipeline.
Our country has the technology and the resources necessary to produce all our energy needs. Lawmakers must recommit themselves to the goal of an abundant energy future that brings prosperity and fuels dreams in America’s communities.
