Biden Sends Another $2.5 Billion in Military Equipment to Ukraine
The Department of Defense announced on Thursday that the Biden Administration would be sending $2.5 billion more in security assistance “to meet” Ukraine’s Critical security and defense requirements
The move marks the Biden administration’s 13th drawdown of equipment from US military inventories for the country since August of 2021.
The US will send vehicles including 59 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles (Blatch), 90 Stryker Armored Personnel Carriers, 53 mine resistant ambush protected vehicles, 350 high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles, 12 ammunition support vehicles and 6 command post vehicles. 22 tactical vehicles will tow weapons.
The US will also send munitions and defense system, including eight Avenger Air Defense Systems, additional munitions in National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), anti-tank rockets and 25mm ammunition to Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles.
“The Kremlin’s most recent air attacks against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure again demonstrate the devastating impact of Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine. This package provides additional NASAMS munitions and Avenger air defense systems to help Ukraine counter a range of short and medium range threats and bolster Ukraine’s layered air defense,” According to the Department of Defense.
According to the Department of Defense “more than $27.4 Billion in security assistance has been committed by the United States,” Ukraine “Since the beginnings of the Biden Administration” and “committed “more than $26.7 billion since the beginning of Russia’s unprovoked and brutal invasion on February 24, 2022.”
