Three Marines Arrested In Connection To January 6
Three active-duty Marines are facing charges after allegedly entering the U.S. Capitol January 6, 2021.
A FBI investigation led this week to the arrest of Cpl. Micah Coomer was arrested along with Sgts. Joshua Abate, Dodge Dale Hellonen court documents show. Each of the three men are facing four charges, including illegal entry as well disorderly conduct.
Investigators relied on surveillance camera footage and open-source materials to identify the men amid the crowd of people who entered the U.S. Capitol, disrupting lawmakers meeting to certify President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. They allegedly spent 52 minutes inside.
Inquiry was supported by search warrants that were issued to Verizon and Facebook. A federal affidavit revealed that messages posted to Instagram by Coomer, who is Facebook’s owner, suggested the 2020 election was fraudulent. According to the affidavit, Abate was interviewed June 1, 2022 as part of his security clearance. He shared his story about how he entered Capitol Building on January 6, 2022 with two others. “buddies” They “walked around and tried not to get hit with tear gas.” He also said that he had decided not to tell anyone about his visit to the Capitol after hearing how negative portrayals of the day were made.
