Larry O’Connor: If Biden Did Nothing Wrong, Why Won’t He Answer Any Questions?

I’m so confused. 

Yesterday, President Joe Biden chastised a reporter for asking a question about the classified document scandal He created a mess for his presidency by keeping Top Secret national security documents in his garage.

He claimed that there were more important matters that he should be talking about and then he read the prepared statement that his lawyers had given him. 

The day before, White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre dodged questions from an intensifying White House press corps. She explained that the White House didn’t want to interfere with an ongoing investigation. 

Oh, wait! According to the White House it is not an investigation. It’s a merely a matter of fact. “review.” The Attorney General hasn’t appointed a special counsel to oversee a case, according to my last check. “review.” 

Our plucky White House press secretary is back! Every question she was asked, she answered with the same. “I refer you to the Justice Department” Oder “I refer you to the White House counsel’s office” response. 

The White House communications staff and President Biden claimed that they aren’t going to address these questions because it would disrupt the work in the Justice Department or special counsel’s office. 

However, they insist that they did nothing wrong and that everything is fine. There was no mishandling classified documents.

This is their main line of defense at the moment

Let’s just play it logically.

Joe Biden could have done nothing wrong. Why should he need to read a prepared statement by his lawyers?

Joe Biden was innocent of any wrongdoing, so why does he refuse to answer questions?

Joe Biden was innocent of any wrongdoing, so why does his press secretary avoid answering every benign and innocuous question?

If Joe Biden was innocent of any wrongdoing, why not hold an open-ended conference for reporters to ask every question they might have about the matter.

Joe Biden can tell the truth so why should he hesitate to answer every question?

Joe Biden can tell the truth, so why would he not read carefully prepared statements?

If Joe Biden is honest and has done nothing wrong, then how can his answers or those of his press secretaries to these questions be hindering the work of the Justice Department?

Investigation (or even “review” If you’re generous, Biden’s handling and storage of classified material and national security secrets can only be improved by listening to the president and asking obvious questions.

He should answer questions as soon as possible if he wants to help the Justice Department or the special counsel. It would be reasonable to assume that he would want this over with. 

He is in the right. He didn’t do anything wrong…

He knows the truth!

Let’s ask every question and get the truth out so the special counsel can close its book. Review We can then move on.

I’m so confused.

The White House, including the president, assures us that he did nothing wrong. State secrets were never in danger and nobody was able to access any sensitive material.

Yeah, that’s right. The truth is out there and the president has done nothing wrong.

You can see why I am so confused. If someone has the truth, they are eager to share it. They’re ready to speak up for themselves. 

They’re willing to answer any question, so nobody jumps at hasty conclusions. For example, he may have left national security documents in the garage of his son who could access them and potentially share them with Chinese foreign enemies. 

Hypothetically. 

Aren’t you confused? 

He did nothing wrong. He is able to speak the truth. This is all a ridiculous little drama and a media-made right wing attack job.

Right? Obviously. 

So, why does he read these prepared statements? He has not defended himself. They are oblivious to the truth. Why do they deflect from basic questions? Why can’t they answer the basic questions?
