10 Killed in California Mass Shooting at Lunar New Year Festival
Police are searching for the suspect who killed 10 people at a business late Saturday in Monterey Park, Calif., in a mass shooting that occurred as the community’s large Asian population celebrated the beginning of the Lunar New Year.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Drew Meyer reported that 10 victims were declared dead on the spot and 10 more were taken to hospital.
Sheriff’s officials told The Associated Press that the shooting was reported at 10:22 p.m. and involved a male shooter, who is still at large.
The community is approximately 10 miles away from downtown Los Angeles.
Seung Won Choi, who owns a seafood restaurant across the street from where the shooting happened, told the Los Angles Times that the incident occurred at a nightclub.
Choi stated that people who fled the scene of the shooting said the shooter was armed and armed with multiple rounds ammunition.
