Former NFL Star Peyton Hillis Discharged From Hospital After Rescuing Kids From Drowning


Former NFL running back Peyton Hillis was discharged by a Florida hospital nearly three weeks after he saved his two kids from drowning.

On Thursday, Hillis’ sister Hayley Davis revealed a positive update on the 37-year-old’s road to recovery in an endearing Facebook post.

“Peyton was discharged today from the hospital!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything health wise is looking good and has all improved— truly a miracle!!,” Davis said.

Davis described the terrible ordeal. “rocked” After an unresponsive Hillis, Pensacola Beach’s airlifted him to the hospital on Jan. 4, his family was saved.

Davis, who also jumped into the water to rescue the children, was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

As they wait for further help, Hillis is assisted by lifeguards or medical professionals.

“I remember seeing Peyt laid out on the sand unable to move and my mom having to run back and forth between us as the medics helped each of us. I just kept praying that Peyt would be ok,” Davis said.

“God has truly been with us and has carried us through. I am so thankful to know a mighty God during good times and bad.”

Following the rescue, the ex-NFL running back was initially in critical health. The situation changed for the better. when he was taken off a ventilator He was in the ICU, and he began to breathe on his own Jan. 11.

“A hero,” Hillis’ girlfriend Angela Cole said on Instagram. “So proud of this man and so incredibly grateful for family and this incredible hospital.”

Hillis was surprise visited by Emmitt Smith, Hall of Fame back in the Hall of Fame before he was discharged from the hospital. Hillis, a former Cowboys player, took a photo while he lay in hospital.

“I had the opportunity to visit a recovering hero this week,” Smith tweeted. “Stay strong, Peyton! Praying for his healing.”

The 2008 NFL Draft saw Hillis selected by the Denver Broncos seventh round. Hillis, a former runningback, also played for Chiefs and Giants.

Hillis retired in 2015 after accumulating 2,832 yards of football and 23 touchdowns over his professional career.
