New York GOP Leaders Demand Answers For Migrant Relocation In Upstate Town
Two New York GOP leaders have called for answers from Biden’s administration about secretly transporting migrants throughout the U.S., after hundreds of Columbian immigrants moved to Jamestown in upstate New York.
Claudia Tenney, Republican Rep., and Elise Stefanik expressed concern in a Wednesday Letter that was signed by Marc Molinaro and Michael Lawler, New York GOP Congressmen.
“We write following reports that your administration is actively settling migrants in Upstate New York communities,” The letterThe following was obtained from the New York Post.
“[W]e wish to express our outrage at the secrecy with which your administration has and continues to carry out these national relocation operations,” The lawmakers wrote. “This unprecedented influx of migrants into the United States is an obvious sign of your administration’s failed policies at the Southern Border.”
The letter mentioned a report of over 30 Columbian migrants living within Jamestown, a city with just over 28,000 inhabitants. The Western New York town lies 285 miles from New York City.
P.J., the Republican Chautauqua Country Executive, spoke out earlier in the month. Wendel expressed concern about the relocation of migrants to Jamestown, and asked for support from Democratic Governor. Kathy Hochul.
“Even if it’s 100 families, our school districts are small,” Wendel said. “Those schools don’t have the resources. If they don’t have a Spanish teacher, what are they going to do?”
“It could be overwhelming for us because how are we supposed to be helping these people?” He concluded.
The letter to the Biden administration is seeking information on how the White House is monitoring the status and locations of the migrants they’ve relocated since January 2021. They are also asking for information on the destination of migrants who have been relocated from Mexico to New York State in January 2021.
Stefanik (the House Republican Conference chair) also criticised the Biden administration. “open border policies” She considers it a threat to national safety.
“Joe Biden’s open border policies have made every state a border state, and Far Left Albany Democrats’ radical agenda is exacerbating the impact of the Biden border crisis in New York,” Stefanik said last month, according to The Post-Journal.
Eric Adams, New York City Democratic mayor, sent the letter as he continues to voice concerns over the migrant boom. The mayor stated that the influx could lead to a citywide economic downturn of up to $2 billion.
“With more than 41,000 asylum seekers arriving in New York City since last spring and nearly 28,000 asylum seekers currently in our care, our city is at its breaking point,” Adams said In a Saturday press release.
Adams announced New York City would temporarily accommodate migrants at a cruise terminal.
Biden administration reportedly flew migrants to the state, in addition to the migrants being bused from Texas to New York. The Daily Wire reported July 26th reported Two flights brought migrants to Westchester County. According to reports, the migrants were transferred from the flights by buses to other New York locations.
