Released Body-Cam Footage Shows Paul Pelosi Attack

Friday’s release of body-cam footage from a police officer showing the October attack on Paul Pelosi has been made possible by the Freedom of Information Act.

The video The footage shows officers approaching Pelosi’s front door. Pelosi is able to see attacker David DePape with a hammer, grabbing him. DePape answers an officer’s question about what is happening. “everything’s good.” Officers see DePape’s Hammer and tell him to Drop it.

“Um, nope,” DePape said. Pelosi is then struck in the head.

DePape attacked Nancy Pelosi (D. Calif.) at Pelosis’ San Francisco residence on Oct. 28. Paul Pelosi was treated for a skull fracture, and he returned to the public in December. A San Francisco judge ordered that the footage be released. This denied a request by DePape’s public defender to withhold evidence from the public.

Pelosi also called 911 to inform a dispatcher that an attacker was holding him against his will.

“This gentleman just came into my house,” Pelosi said in the call. “He’s… He’s telling me not to, he’s telling me not to do anything.”

The dispatcher doesn’t seem to be able to comprehend, and at one point she stated that she would hang up.

Pelosi will speak later on the call. “He’s telling me to put the phone down and, uh, just do what he says. OK?”

DePape was listening to calls and at one point told the dispatcher his name. “David.”

Other footage that was released included surveillance footage of DePape breaking into Pelosis’ house and DePape interview. DePape said during interview that DePape wanted Nancy Pelosi to suffer because she was her representative. “evil in Washington,” Politico reported. Nancy Pelosi was present in Washington, D.C., when the attack occurred.

DePape has pleaded guilty.
