Border Patrol Asks Americans to Stop Trying to Smuggle in Raw Eggs From Mexico
The United States Customs and Border Protection agency has asked Americans to stop trying to smuggle raw eggs from Mexico.
People are choosing to buy the chicken and eggs in Mexico rather than spending the extra money at the grocery shop because of avian influenza.
“There has been a large increase in the volume of prohibited food items, such as raw eggs and raw poultry meat, brought by travelers from Mexico. We would like to remind the traveling public that federal agricultural regulations remain in effect,” Jennifer De La O is the CBP Director of Field Operations for San Diego. This was stated in a news release dated January 20.
De La O also tweeted that anyone caught illegally smuggling items could be subject to a $10,000 penalty.
